I'm a little late posting this since we're already well into August, but sunscreen should be part of your daily routine all year round anyway! Here are a few of my tried and true SPF essentials:
Countersun Mineral Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30
I apply this on every part of my body that will be exposed to the sun before I leave the house.
Countersun Mineral Sunscreen Stick SPF 30
This product is my go-to sunscreen for my face. Just swipe and go!
Countersun Mineral Sunscreen Mist SPF 30
This mist is out of this world! It's so quick and easy to reapply after water/sun exposure.
Countersun Tinted Mineral Sunscreen Mist SPF 30
What?!? A sunscreen with TINT?!? I LOVE this product... spray it on for protection AND glow!
Countersun After Sun Cooling Gel
I think this may be my favorite product in this line-up. I got a little burned on my shoulders on our summer vacation, and I applied this generously that night. After I get a sunburn, I am usually pretty uncomfortable the next day, but I woke up feeling almost like I didn't get a burn at all! And it smells wonderful.
Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20
Dew Skin is my go-to for everyday sun protection under makeup. I apply this after moisturizer and then layer my foundation and other makeup products over.
What I love about Beautycounter's SPF products is that they are formulated with non-nano zinc oxide, BUT they do not appear white like a lot of those other mineral sunscreens on the market!
You'll notice that Beautycounter's Sunscreens are all SPF 30 and you may be thinking, why not use a higher SPF?
Let me explain:
SPF 15 = blocks 93% of UV rays
SPF 30 = blocks 97% of UV rays
SPF 50 = blocks 98% of UV rays
So you see, you'll only get 1% more protection if you go from SPF 30 to SPF 50 and generally speaking, the higher the SPF, the higher the chemical load.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MINERAL AND CHEMICAL SUNSCREEN, AND WHAT DOES BEAUTYCOUNTER USE?
Chemical sunscreens are technically sun filters. The vast majority of sunscreens on the market contain chemical sunscreen ingredients like avobenzone, oxybenzone, or octocrylene. They’re called sun filters because they absorb the sun’s UV energy and release it back into the air as heat. They are popular because they are easy to apply, transparent, and blendable into the skin. But at Beautycounter, we prohibit chemical filters due to their potential for skin irritation.
Mineral sunscreens are Beautycounter’s preferred sunscreen technology. Zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are physical particles that sit on the surface of the skin to scatter/reflect the sun’s rays away from the skin. Mineral sunscreens are also great for people with sensitive skin.
WHY SHOULD YOU PROTECT WITH SPF?
An estimated 90% of the signs of aging are caused by the sun*.
More people are diagnosed with skin cancer each year in the U.S. than all other cancers combined*.
WHAT SPF SHOULD I USE IF I'M LOOKING FOR DAILY SUN PROTECTION UNDER MAKEUP?
For incidental sun exposure, less than an hour all day, it’s best to use Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer with SPF 20 to give a sheer amount of makeup coverage while still getting the benefit of allover sunscreen. If desired, you can then layer on your favorite foundation, like Tint Skin Moisturizing Foundation, and other makeup products. Keep in mind; Dew Skin is not recommended for prolonged sun exposure. If you’re going to the beach or spending more than an hour in direct sunlight, it’s best to use your preferred Countersun Mineral Sunscreen Stick, Lotion, or Mist.
